Preferring an industrial township status, the Taloja Industries Association (TIA) has decided to oppose the jurisdiction of the proposed Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC), expected to be formed next year.

A meeting of the Mumbai Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) industrialists was held in Taloja MIDC by TIA on Wednesday to discuss the two options. “We have decided not to be a part of the municipal corporation. We are instead proposing an industrial township in the region that will greatly benefit the industries here,” said Satish Shetty, president of TIA.

“The 980 industries are facing a tough time and will be burdened further with additional taxes by PMC as has happened with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation,” he said.

“The gram panchayats are dependent on taxes from the industries and will lose out so will the project-affected people. Through the township, we will ensure the PAP do not suffer,” said TIA secretary Juzar Burmawala, Police officers display the 67 duplicate car keys and mobile phones recovered from the arrested on Wednesday.
