Green nod for Mum­bai’s coastal road in 15 days

MUM­BAI: The decks were cleared for the 33.2-km coastal road project in Mum­bai with Union en­vi­ron­ment min­is­ter Prakash Javadekar as­sur­ing chief min­is­ter Deven­dra Fad­navis on Wed­nes­day that the fi­nal no­ti­fi­ca­tion al­low­ing recla­ma­tion for the am­bi­tious project will be is­sued in the next 15 days.

How­ever, more de­lays seem in­evitable for the 22-km Mum­bai Trans Har­bour Link (MTHL) project with min­istry of­fi­cials stat­ing that the re­cent Na­tional Green Tri­bunal (NGT) or­der — as per which the project will need to get fresh en­vi­ron­men­tal clear­ance — will need to be ad­hered to.

Fad­navis along with other se­nior state gov­ern­ment of­fi­cials met Javadekar and min­istry of­fi­cials in New Delhi to re­view pend­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal clear­ances for the two mega in­fras­truc­ture projects.

On the no­ti­fi­ca­tion for the coastal road, the min­istry said that it will in­sist that the con­struc­tion should be done “with­out af­fect in the ti­dal flow of wa­ter”.
