KAMOTHE RESIDENTS PROTEST AGAINST LOW-PRESSURE WATER SUPPLY

Hindustan Times ST (Mumbai) - HT Navi Mumbai Live - - NAVI MUMBAI -

Disgruntled by inadequate water supply over the past six months, residents of Kamothe protested outside the Cidco Bhavan on Wednesday

Residents, led by Panvel MLA Prashant Thakur, gathered at CBD Belapur and raised slogans against Cidco

“Our node has a population of around 2.5 lakh and the requirement of water is 45 MLD. However, we get only around 26 MLD on most days,” said Shankar Mhatre, a resident.

The Cidco has assured steady water supply to residents from November 9

“Owing to less rainfall, the supply from Hetawane and Morbe dams has reduced leading to lesser supply to the node,” said Rajendra Chavan, joint managing director, Cidco.

“We are implementing a zonewise plan to ensure water is supplied from the water tanks through gravitational force to areas close to the tank. For the areas at a distance, we are installing new water pumps at the tank to electrically pump water. Every household will get 550 litres of water daily in the morning and evening,” said Chavan.

“If the water supply is not normalised from Monday, we want the Cidco to stand before the residents and explain the problem,” said Thakur.
