Woman’s body fished out of Vashi pond
VASHI: Morning walkers at Mini Seashore in Vashi were in for a shock on Wednesday as they spotted the body of a 29-year-old woman in the holding pond.
The woman, identified as Vanita Kale, was a resident of Alaknanda Housing Society in Vashi’s Sector 14, said the police.
According to the police, Kale probably committed suicide as she was upset over a family feud.
“On Monday, the woman had heated exchanges with her husband, Deepak, a businessman. Deepak and his brother, who run a business in Ulhasnagar, were disputing over some issues. Deepak did not want Kale to get involved, which enraged her,” said deputy commissioner of police Shahaji Umap. “In the evening, she left the house saying she will be back in some time. But when she didn’t return, Deepak filed a missing person’s complaint at the Vashi police station,” added Umap.
Initially there was no clue about her identity. But when the Vashi police were informed about the death, they matched the description with that provided by Deepak and called the family to identify the deceased.
“Since her body was found floating on Wednesday, it seems she drowned in the holding pond on Monday as it takes time for the body to bloat and come up to the surface,” said Umap, adding, her body was pulled out by divers.
Kale is survived by her husband and and eight-year-old son.
“Prima facie, it appears that she committed suicide. However, we are investigating all the angles,” said Umap.
