THANE: A 34-year-old woman was ar­rested dur­ing a po­lice raid for forc­ing her 16-year-old daugh­ter into pros­ti­tu­tion. When the po­lice in­ter­ro­gated the mi­nor, she al­legedly said that her mother used to force her into the flesh trade by burn­ing her with a can­dle.

The anti-hu­man traf­fick­ing cell of the Thane crime branch along with an NGO con­ducted a raid at a lodge on Thane-Bhi­wandi road.

The po­lice have ar­rested six peo­ple that in­clude the lodge man­ager, the agent along with two wait­ers and two auto-rick­shaw driv­ers.

“The owner of the bar is ab­scond­ing, while one more man­ager fled from the spot. Ya­dav too was try­ing to flee by break­ing open the win­dow of a toi­let, but was caught,” said Sha­keel Shaikh, se­nior po­lice in­spec­tor, anti-hu­man traf­fick­ing cell.

The po­lice dur­ing the raid also res­cued two in­clud­ing the 16-year-old mi­nor and a 19-yearold, who were forced into pros­ti­tu­tion.

“The girl al­legedly said that her mother forced her into the flesh racket and if she re­fused she was as­saulted and burnt. Sev­eral wounds could be seen on her body. The girl claimed that she had been forced into the busi­ness for the past seven months,” said a mem­ber from the NGO.

Dur­ing the raid, the po­lice found cash of Rs76, 620 and two mo­bile phones from the ac­cused.

“The NGO re­ceived a tip off about a mi­nor be­ing forced into pros­ti­tu­tion. Ac­cord­ingly, we sent two fake cus­tomers at the lodge and got con­fir­ma­tion. Af­ter which, a raid was con­ducted and we res­cued two,” said Shaikh.
