MOTHER HELD FOR FORCING MINOR GIRL INTO PROSTITUTION
THANE: A 34-year-old woman was arrested during a police raid for forcing her 16-year-old daughter into prostitution. When the police interrogated the minor, she allegedly said that her mother used to force her into the flesh trade by burning her with a candle.
The anti-human trafficking cell of the Thane crime branch along with an NGO conducted a raid at a lodge on Thane-Bhiwandi road.
The police have arrested six people that include the lodge manager, the agent along with two waiters and two auto-rickshaw drivers.
“The owner of the bar is absconding, while one more manager fled from the spot. Yadav too was trying to flee by breaking open the window of a toilet, but was caught,” said Shakeel Shaikh, senior police inspector, anti-human trafficking cell.
The police during the raid also rescued two including the 16-year-old minor and a 19-yearold, who were forced into prostitution.
“The girl allegedly said that her mother forced her into the flesh racket and if she refused she was assaulted and burnt. Several wounds could be seen on her body. The girl claimed that she had been forced into the business for the past seven months,” said a member from the NGO.
During the raid, the police found cash of Rs76, 620 and two mobile phones from the accused.
“The NGO received a tip off about a minor being forced into prostitution. Accordingly, we sent two fake customers at the lodge and got confirmation. After which, a raid was conducted and we rescued two,” said Shaikh.
