PANVEL: Local residents opposing the Navi Mumbai Airport Influence Notified Area (NAINA) project are planning a morcha to the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) Bhavan in CBD Belapur.

In a bid to ensure that the project doesn’t take off, the morcha, which sources said is likely to take place soon, will include farmers and balu-tedaars, people traditionally involved in 12 different professions in villages.

Speaking at a farmers rally at Nere last week, Prabhakar Gandhi, a Leftist leader, said, “To ensure that the NAINA project does not materialise, there is a need to start a people’s movement. For this, the 12 balute-daars need to be included in the movement.”

“The government won because of the farmers’ votes. But now, it isn’t doing anything to redress their woes. Farmers need to wake up before the NAINA project usurps their land,” said Gandhi.
