‘1,657 ILLEGAL STRUCTURES WILL BE DEMOLISHED’
“These include 1,021 structures in areas under the NMMC’s jurisdiction and 636 structures in areas under Cidco’s jurisdiction. These are multi-storey structures and certainly not need-based ones,” said Bhatia.
Bhatia said, “The government has taken a decision to regularise the need-based houses of the PAP and it will be implemented. However, there will definitely be action against the 1,657 illegal constructions that have come up after January 1, 2013.”
The PAP have demanded that Cidco stop action against their “need-based constructions” in the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and Cidco areas. They have also approached the chief minister seeking his intervention in the matter.
Despite opposition from various quarters, the City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is determined to take action against 1,657 allegedly illegal structures in the city. Cidco vicechairman and managing director Sanjay Bhatia has confirmed that constructions in villages built after January 2013 will not be exempted. The reiteration has further fueled the confrontation between the project affected people (PAP) and Cidco.
