“Th­ese in­clude 1,021 struc­tures in ar­eas un­der the NMMC’s ju­ris­dic­tion and 636 struc­tures in ar­eas un­der Cidco’s ju­ris­dic­tion. Th­ese are multi-storey struc­tures and cer­tainly not need-based ones,” said Bha­tia.

Bha­tia said, “The gov­ern­ment has taken a de­ci­sion to reg­u­larise the need-based houses of the PAP and it will be im­ple­mented. How­ever, there will definitely be ac­tion against the 1,657 il­le­gal con­struc­tions that have come up af­ter Jan­uary 1, 2013.”

The PAP have de­manded that Cidco stop ac­tion against their “need-based con­struc­tions” in the Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) and Cidco ar­eas. They have also ap­proached the chief min­is­ter seek­ing his in­ter­ven­tion in the mat­ter.

De­spite op­po­si­tion from var­i­ous quar­ters, the City and In­dus­trial De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion (Cidco) is de­ter­mined to take ac­tion against 1,657 al­legedly il­le­gal struc­tures in the city. Cidco vicechair­man and man­ag­ing di­rec­tor San­jay Bha­tia has con­firmed that con­struc­tions in vil­lages built af­ter Jan­uary 2013 will not be ex­empted. The re­it­er­a­tion has fur­ther fu­eled the con­fronta­tion be­tween the project af­fected peo­ple (PAP) and Cidco.
