Res­i­dents of Cidco-con­structed build­ings have been de­mand­ing ad­di­tional FSI for the past 20 years

The 2.5 FSI pro­posal sent by the NMMC to the state gov­ern­ment had been ap­proved by the then state gov­ern­ment just be­fore the as­sem­bly elec­tions

How­ever, the gov­ern­ment res­o­lu­tion could not be en­forced as the as­sem­bly poll code of con­duct came into force

When the new gov­ern­ment took over, it took its time to study the pro­posal and in Fe­bru­ary, the gov­ern­ment res­o­lu­tion was fi­nally is­sued

IN-PRIN­CI­PLE AP­PROVAL GRANTED

The state gov­ern­ment an­nounced 2.5 FSI for re­de­vel­op­ment of di­lap­i­dated Cidco-con­structed build­ings in Fe­bru­ary

Six months later, eight hous­ing so­ci­eties in Vashi — namely, Shrad­dha, Kailash, Ekta, Jai Ma­ha­rash­tra, F-type, Avni and Panchratna, which house around 1,700 res­i­dents — sub­mit­ted their ap­pli­ca­tion for re­de­vel­op­ment

Based on the doc­u­ments they sub­mit­ted, they have been given in-prin­ci­ple ap­provals by the town plan­ning depart­ment in Septem­ber

How­ever, Akash Co­op­er­a­tive Hous­ing So­ci­ety in Vashi’s Sec­tor 10 has re­ceived the com­mence­ment cer­tifi­cate (CC) from Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) to be re­de­vel­oped

PA­THETIC STATE OF CIDCO BUILD­INGS

Sev­eral build­ings con­structed by Cidco in Vashi, Kopar Khairane, Ghan­soli, Airoli, San­pada and Nerul are in a pa­thetic state

The NMMC has de­clared 92 build­ings dan­ger­ous The res­i­dents of th­ese build­ings risk their lives on a daily ba­sis as there have been sev­eral in­stances of slab, ceil­ing and plas­ter falls in­jur­ing res­i­dents

The build­ings that have been worst af­fected in­clude Vashi’s JN1 and JN2 type build­ings

The res­i­dents of Vashi’s Shrad­dha apart­ment have been liv­ing in a tran­sit camp for years
