An in­creas­ing num­ber of peo­ple are re­port­edly re­ceiv­ing threat­en­ing calls from gang­ster Suresh Pu­jari. Till date, more than 20 peo­ple in­clud­ing politi­cians, hote­liers, busi­ness­men and ca­ble op­er­a­tors have al­legedly re­ceived such calls from the gang­ster.

On Thurs­day, a 51-year-old Am­ber­nath hote­lier said he re­ceived a threat call from the gang­ster him­self. Pu­jari al­legedly de­manded a ran­som of Rs5 lakh from the man. The Am­ber­nath po­lice sta­tion has reg­is­tered a case and is fur­ther in­ves­ti­gat­ing the mat­ter.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the com­plainant Bri­jlal Jaiswal re­ceived a call from a per­son claim­ing to be Suresh Pu­jari, who de­manded the money and threat­ened to kill him if he didn’t pay up. Jaiswal was head­ing to­wards his ho­tel when he re­ceived the call.

“Ear­lier, a case was been reg­is­ter at the Shivaji Na­gar po­lice sta­tion, but later it was trans­ferred to the Am­ber­nath po­lice sta­tion. The com­plainant had given us the mo­bile num­ber from which he re­ceived the call. We are try­ing to trace the num­ber with the help of the ser­vice provider,” said an of­fi­cer from the Am­ber­nath po­lice sta­tion.

A case has been reg­is­tered at Am­ber­nath po­lice sta­tion un­der sec­tion of the 386 (ex­tor­tion by putting a per­son in fear of death or griev­ous in­jury), 504 (in­ten­tional in­sult with in­tent to pro­voke breach of the peace) and 506 (pun­ish­ment for crim­i­nal in­tim­i­da­tion) of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.
