J&K GUN BATTLE: 3 MILITANTS AND 1 CIVILIAN KILLED
SRINAGAR: A civilian and three militants were killed when they stormed an army camp in Tanghdar near the Line of Control (LoC) in Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Wednesday. A junior commissioned officer was injured in the attack claimed by the Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM).
The incident comes a week after a colonel died in an encounter with terrorists in Kupwara.
Unconfirmed reports said a group of five to seven militants had recently infiltrated into the area and might have tried to attack the camp. “Whether the men entered the camp is being ascertained,” a source said.
There were 70 infiltration bids last year in J&K, during which 65 terrorists managed to sneak in, while 136 were pushed back. The recent spike in violence in the state came against the backdrop of a sharp downturn in relations between India and Pakistan, following the cancellation of talks between the national security advisers in August.
