Four people attempting a dacoity aboard the Kamayani express train at Thane railway station on Sunday were arrested by the government railway police, while two others fled from the scene.

The police found that the accused were based in West Bengal and had come to Thane to attempt a robbery.

The arrested accused are identified as Moresath Jhamseth Gain, 20, Mohammed Sahil Mohammed Hanif Qureshi, 20, Chunat Akaj Gazi, 45, and Amir Ali Ahmed Gazi, 24. The two absconding accused include Rafiq Zakir Shah and Babul Shaukat Shaikh.

Police found two knives, chilly powder and rope in the possession of the accused. “We received information from our sources that a group of around six people have planned a dacoity in the general compartment of Kamayani express train,” said Suresh Patil, Police Inspector, Thane GRP.

Patil said the police laid a trap in plain clothes, and successfully caught the accused.

“When we interrogated the accused, we found that all of them are from west Bengal and came only to attempt the dacoity. They arrived at Mumbra two days prior to Sunday and rented a flat, where they planned the dacoity. The four were produced in Kalyan railway court on Monday, and were remanded in police custody till November 27,” said GV Sonawane, sub-inspector, Thane GRP.
