Chhota Rajan held, but case stuck
MUMBAI: More than a month ago, in a covert operation involving Indian intelligence agencies, gangster Chhota Rajan was arrested in Bali in Indonesia, after being on the run for 25 years. With more than 70 cases against him, this was a big catch. The Central Bureau of Investigation’s (CBI) probe, however, has not gone beyond the arrest.
The Maharashtra government transferred the case to the CBI — as the agency has the power to investigate cases across the country and abroad — and the Mumbai police assured its cooperation. However, police sources said till date, the CBI had not taken a step forward to take Chhota Rajan’s custody or call for papers related to the cases against him in Mumbai.
The gangster has four cases under the Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act, 12 under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act and one case under the Prevention of Terrorism Act.
