You can now take NMMT bus from Taloja to Belapur
TALOJA: Commuters can now heave a sigh of relief as their long-pending demand for a bus service in the area has been fulfilled by Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport (NMMT).
Following the persistent demand and follow-ups by Taloja Pachnand Nagar Rahiwasi Sangh, an association of local residents, the NMMT decided to start the service in Taloja Phase I.
Route number 52 from Taloja was inaugurated on Tuesday by NMMT committee chairman Sabu Daniel.
Originating at CBD Belapur railway station, the bus service will go via Kharghar to Taloja phase I. There will be a bus every 24 minutes.
Local villagers too will benefit from the service as the bus will go upto Pethali village.
“Although the population has crossed 10,000 in Taloja Phase I, with many middleclass residents residing in the area, public transport service was not available here,” said Kasam Mulani, president of the Sangh.
“The worst-affected were students and senior citizens. They have to walk till RAF camp and then take autorickshaw from there. We had been following up on the issue with NMMC and everyone is happy that we succeeded,” said Mulani.
“We had to pay huge sums to autorickshaw drivers to go anywhere. The bus service will save our time and money,” said Shahjehan Chougule, a resident.
NMMT general manager Shirish Aradwad said, “We have routes 52, 53, 54 operating till Kharghar; route 52 will extend upto RAF camp.”
NMMT chairman Sabu Daniel said, “Depending on the response that we get to the service, we will increase the frequency of the service and introduce more buses.”
