Police arrest six highway robbers who stole trailer
CBD BELAPUR: The Navi Mumbai crime branch busted a gang of dacoits last week that specialised in stealing trailers and stealing consignments from their containers. The police have arrested six members of the gang.
Police have learnt that the gang members were involved in some other crimes as well, investigations of which are on.
Giving details of the arrests, deputy commissioner of police (crime) Dilip Sawant said, “Last Thursday, Ansar Mansuri, a driver of a trailer carrying iron angles worth around Rs7lakh was travelling from Kuduswadi in Bhiwandi, towards Taloja MIDC area. Around 12.30am, as it passed Nashik-Bhiwandi bypass, six people in a red Swift waved the trailer driver to stop.”
According to Sawant, three of the them asked the driver of the trailer for a lift to Shilphata. The other three continued to sit in the car that drove ahead of the trailer.
After some distance, the three overpowered Mansuri who was driving and took control of the trailer.
“The the men beat up Mansuri and threw him out of the trailer. They threatened to kill him and took away his mobile phone and cash worth Rs13,500 and fled with the trailer.”
Mansuri then filed a complaint with the Navi Mumbai crime branch. It was later found that the stolen trailer and the consignment were to be bought for sale in Kharghar.
The accused arrested are Dilshad Khan, 24, Mukim Khan, 24, Rakib Shaikh, 28, Furqan Khan, 28, Vinod Upadhyay, 32 and Kasim Rizvi, 40.
The police recovered the stolen trailer worth Rs15,00,000 that was hidden in Kharghar and the consignment worth Rs7,24,710. Police are investigating the possibility of the gang being involved in more such crimes.
