Po­lice ar­rest six high­way rob­bers who stole trailer

CBD BE­LA­PUR: The Navi Mum­bai crime branch busted a gang of da­coits last week that spe­cialised in steal­ing trail­ers and steal­ing con­sign­ments from their con­tain­ers. The po­lice have ar­rested six mem­bers of the gang.

Po­lice have learnt that the gang mem­bers were in­volved in some other crimes as well, in­ves­ti­ga­tions of which are on.

Giv­ing de­tails of the ar­rests, deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (crime) Dilip Sawant said, “Last Thurs­day, An­sar Mansuri, a driver of a trailer car­ry­ing iron an­gles worth around Rs7lakh was trav­el­ling from Kuduswadi in Bhi­wandi, to­wards Taloja MIDC area. Around 12.30am, as it passed Nashik-Bhi­wandi by­pass, six peo­ple in a red Swift waved the trailer driver to stop.”

Ac­cord­ing to Sawant, three of the them asked the driver of the trailer for a lift to Shil­phata. The other three con­tin­ued to sit in the car that drove ahead of the trailer.

Af­ter some dis­tance, the three over­pow­ered Mansuri who was driv­ing and took con­trol of the trailer.

“The the men beat up Mansuri and threw him out of the trailer. They threat­ened to kill him and took away his mo­bile phone and cash worth Rs13,500 and fled with the trailer.”

Mansuri then filed a com­plaint with the Navi Mum­bai crime branch. It was later found that the stolen trailer and the con­sign­ment were to be bought for sale in Kharghar.

The ac­cused ar­rested are Dil­shad Khan, 24, Mukim Khan, 24, Rakib Shaikh, 28, Furqan Khan, 28, Vinod Upad­hyay, 32 and Kasim Rizvi, 40.

The po­lice re­cov­ered the stolen trailer worth Rs15,00,000 that was hid­den in Kharghar and the con­sign­ment worth Rs7,24,710. Po­lice are in­ves­ti­gat­ing the pos­si­bil­ity of the gang be­ing in­volved in more such crimes.
