25 schools take part in sports
CBD BELAPUR: On the occasion of World Disability Day, the Social Welfare Department, Zilla Parishad Thane along with Swami Brahmanand Pratishthan (SBP), Centre for Special Children organised District Sports Meet on Thursday at the Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi Krida Sankul in Sector 3, CBD Belapur.
Around 25 special schools under Thane Zilla Parishad participated in the event. A total of 425 students with different disabilities such as hearing impairment, visual impairment, mental retardation, orthopaedic and multiple disabilities participated in various athletic and aquatic events. The aquatic events were held on Wednesday at YMCA, Sector 3, CBD Belapur.
The chief guests for the events were Taranath Shenoy, 57, a deaf and visually impaired Indian swimmer and a member of the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame who has been awarded the Padma Shri. The other guest was Vikram Singh Adhikari, a weight lifter paralympian who was selected for CWG-2010.
