25 schools take part in sports

CBD BE­LA­PUR: On the oc­ca­sion of World Dis­abil­ity Day, the So­cial Wel­fare Depart­ment, Zilla Par­ishad Thane along with Swami Brah­manand Pratishthan (SBP), Cen­tre for Spe­cial Chil­dren or­gan­ised Dis­trict Sports Meet on Thurs­day at the Late Shri Ra­jiv Gandhi Krida Sankul in Sec­tor 3, CBD Be­la­pur.

Around 25 spe­cial schools un­der Thane Zilla Par­ishad par­tic­i­pated in the event. A to­tal of 425 stu­dents with dif­fer­ent dis­abil­i­ties such as hear­ing im­pair­ment, vis­ual im­pair­ment, men­tal re­tar­da­tion, or­thopaedic and mul­ti­ple dis­abil­i­ties par­tic­i­pated in var­i­ous ath­letic and aquatic events. The aquatic events were held on Wed­nes­day at YMCA, Sec­tor 3, CBD Be­la­pur.

The chief guests for the events were Taranath Shenoy, 57, a deaf and vis­ually im­paired In­dian swim­mer and a mem­ber of the In­ter­na­tional Marathon Swim­ming Hall of Fame who has been awarded the Padma Shri. The other guest was Vikram Singh Ad­hikari, a weight lifter par­a­lympian who was se­lected for CWG-2010.
