Liquor shop raided at Airoli, seven arrested
The special squad under the leadership of deputy commissioner of police, zone I, Shahji Umap continued its action against illegal liquor dens by raiding one on Wednesday.
The police laid a trap around 10pm on Wednesday.
According to Umap, “We received information that an illegal liquor joint was operating next to a beer shop at Sector 20 in Airoli. My squad then raided the place.”
He added, “The squad confirmed the existence of the illegal place and arrested seven people, including the owners and the customers who did not have the permit to drink.”
Six of the accused, who are residents of Airoli, have been identified as Mahendrakumar Mahto, 20, of Sector 20, Nikhil More, 25, a resident of Sector 5, Atish Jadhav, 31, of Sainathwadi in Airoli, Amit Shinde, 28, of Airoli gaon, Prashant Jagtap, 35, of Mulund, Sanket More, 22, of Ishwarnagar, Digha and Yogesh Salunkhe, 28, a resident of Sector 9.
Mahto was running the liquor joint for Ranganath Prabhu. The rest of the arrested were customers at the joint.
A case under Mumbai prohibition act has been registered against the accused at Rabale police station.
The police are investigating how long the joint had been in existence and are looking for Prabhu.
