Cidco issues demolition notice to 31 illegal buildings at Airoli
CBD BELAPUR: The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) has planned to go about its demolition drive with its strategy of node-wise demolitions.
In the first phase, Airoli has been chosen where a total of 31 structures will be demolished.
Following orders from the high court, Cidco started taking action against illegal structures in May-June this year which was met with strong opposition from the PAP.
As a result, Cidco was a bit cautious about taking action in the areas under NMMC jurisdiction.
This resulted in illegal constructions once again getting a boost.
In the past four months, a large number of new illegal constructions have come up in the city. Work on these buildings is being taken up at a fast pace.
Areas like Gothivli, Ghansoli, Kopar Khairane, Bonkode, Kopri, Juhugaon, Sanpada, Nerul continue to be hotspots of illegal constructions.
With NMMC doing little to counter it, Cidco has once again geared up to take action.
In August, Cidco published a list of 219 illegal structrures. Of these, around 138 are under NMMC jurisdiction. The rest are in Uran and Panvel regions. Action has been taken against several of these structures. Now, Cidco has turned its attention towards areas under NMMC jurisdiction.
A Cidco official said, “We are targeting the 138 illegal structures to whom notices have already been issued and also the new illegal constructions that have come up in the last four months. It will be done in phases and node-wise.”
“We will then move on to other nodes once the present phase of Airoli demolitions are over,” added the official.
Yogesh Mhase, additional collector and Cidco chief controller of unauthorised construction (CCUC), said: “Fresh notices have been given to 31 structures here. The demolitions in the node are in that context. It will be completed in a week’s time.”
