Nerul: Two people were killed when a tempo rammed into a tanker on the Sion-Panvel highway at Nerul, in the wee hours of Friday. The tanker overturned leading to a leakage of its chemical contents. The road was then closed for over three hours. The accident took place around 3.30am on the flyover near Uran Phata when the tanker was heading towards Panvel. According to senior police inspector Sangeeta Alphonso, “Since the visibility was very poor owing to fog, the tanker driver was driving slowly. However, a tempo driver, who seems to have been speeding, did not notice the tanker and rammed into it from behind.” The cleaner of the tempo, Yogesh Doiphode, 24, from Pune, was killed on the spot. The driver, Babasaheb Bhagwan Darade was taken to NMMC hospital in Vashi, but he succumbed to his injuries.
