FULL STEAM AHEAD
The NMMT was established by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) to provide efficient public transport service to its residents.
The number of buses in the NMMT fleet is currently 340. Of the 340, a maximum of 260 to 275 buses run on the road every day.
Several buses can be seen parked all day at the Turbhe and Asudgaon depot.
With several buses remaining idle and fewer number of buses running on the road, NMMT’s losses have been on the rise. There have been several complaints from the passengers too with several passengers shifting to BEST for travel
When the present incumbent Sabu Daniel took over as the chairman of NMMT earlier this year, he planned the ‘bus day’ concept
Efforts were on for the past 15 days to get maximum number of buses on road. The efforts paid off with 293 buses taking to the road
“The process to
make NMMT more efficient has begun. Bus day will be organized in January. The ‘All out day’ was a dress rehearsal for the big day,”
SABU DANIEL, NMMT chairman
