MAYOR INSPECTS NEGLECTED NERUL WARDS, TAKES ACTION
NERUL: Mayor Sudhakar Sonawane on Saturday inspected ward 88 of Nerul comprising areas from Sector 3 to 9. Sonawane said the conditions in the area are a blot to the city and ordered that immediate action be taken to rectify the situation.
The ward at present does not have a corporator since the death of corporator Shashikala Maladi in October.
Residents said that the area has been neglected by the officials.
Sonawane was accompanied by Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) house leader JD Sutar, corporator Ravindra Ithape and former corporator Suresh Shetty, apart from local ward officials and residents.
Following the inspection, Sonawane said, “There had been complaints by the residents about the upkeep of the area and so I decided to visit it. I have found that their complaints are true.”
Sonawane said, “I am appalled by the conditions here. We pride ourselves for being the cleanest city and have under taken Swachh Bharat initiative, but the unhygienic conditions in the area are something that we should be ashamed of.”
Sonawane highlighted the poor condition and quality of the footpaths.
He said there are broken tiles and inter-locking pavers all over and the manholes are broken and gutters are open. According to Sonawane, the public toilet here too is in a pathetic state.
“I have instructed the officials here to take immediate action in the matter and resolve the problems here,” said Sonawane.
He added, “I will be visiting the area again in a week’s time. If I do not see improvement here, I will ensure that action is taken against those responsible. They will be suspended.”
