European firm to help civic body with smart solutions
VASHI: Under the aegis of India’s smart city challenge, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) on Friday signed an MoU with the European Business and Technology Centre (EBTC) to promote real-time solutions and best practices from Europe for the Navi Mumbai Smart City Project.
The agreement was signed in the presence of chief minister Devendra Fadnavis at the Cidco Exhibition Centre, where he launched Cidco’s Navi Mumbai South Smart city project on Friday.
EBTC is a programme co-funded by the European Union and implemented by Eurochambers, the association of European Chambers of Commerce and Industry, with a company incorporated in India.
EBTC is the reference point for promoting and incorporating European technologies to suit the local needs in India. EBTC’s efforts focus on the four main sectors of biotechnology, energy, environment and transport.
Municipal commissioner Dinesh Waghmare said, “This MOU with EBTC is a testimonial that Navi Mumbai is all geared up to meet the benchmarks.”
Poul Jenson, director of EBTC, said, “It’s a privilege to be an integral part of this expert mission and to help replicate the best of EU Smart City in Navi Mumbai. EBTC intends to provide access to EU policy frameworks which could be used as a template for the Navi Mumbai Smart City Project.”
