CBD BELAPUR: Distressed by the long- pending problems of New Panvel and Khanda Colony, members of Peasants and Workers Party ( PWP) organised a huge rally to City and Industrial Development Corporation’s ( Cidco) Panvel office on Tuesday and demanded resolution of the problems.

The protest rally, l ed by former MLA Vivek Patil, started from Tulsi Heights complex of Sector 5, New Panvel.

“Residents are facing problems such as irregular water supply and issue of plots for religious places. There are no plans for slum rehabilitation. There are no public toilets, gardens and play grounds. We have listed 18 such problems that need immediate action from Cidco,” said Patil.

“Cidco must change its style of functioning or else people will change them to get their basic needs fulfilled,” said Pail, who also opposed the government’s decision to reopen ladies bars.

“Cidco had a lease deed of 60 years but the houses constructed are in pathetic state, merely 20 years since they were constructed,” added Vivek

A delegation of PWP leaders led by Panvel Municipal Council’s opposition leader Sandip Patil held discussions with Cidco’s superintendent engineer and Panvel administrator Sudhakar Visale.
