COPS AR­REST 4 APMC WORK­ERS FOR THEFT, SOLVE 4 CASES

VASHI: Four cases of house­break­ing and theft were solved af­ter the Vashi po­lice ar­rested four work­ers of the APMC mar­ket in Vashi, who were mem­bers of a gang.

The po­lice re­cov­ered booty worth Rs4 l akh which t he ac­cused had buried it.

On Novem­ber 22, the house of Avd­hoot Roy, 49, a res­i­dent of Sec­tor 16 in Vashi, was bro­ken into. Around 3am, his wife was wo­ken by a sound. Even as she raised an alarm, the mis­cre­ants es­caped with valu­ables.

Ac­cord­ing to deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice Shahji Umap, “Dur­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tion, we found that a gang had been op­er­at­ing in Vashi and APMC ar­eas. Un­der the guidance of se­nior i nspec­tor of Vashi po­lice s t ation Ajayku­mar Landge, night pa­trolling was in­creased in the re­gion.”

Umap said, “We learnt that a gang was plan­ning to break i nto a house at Juhugaon. Landge’s team laid a trap at Gaodevi maidan and the four were ar­rested.”

The po­lice said t he f our con­fessed to the crime dur­ing in­ter­ro­ga­tion. They said af­ter com­mit­ting a rob­bery, they would find an empty piece of land in APMC mar­ket and bury the stolen goods.

The ac­cused have been iden­ti­fied as Ashra­ful Choud­hary, 25, Shaiju Shaikh, 23, Saeed Shaikh, 27, and Barkat Shaikh, 23. The po­lice have re­cov­ered 1 0 0 gms of gold j ewellery, Rs8,700 cash and six mo­bile phones.

“While Choud­hary, Shaiju and Saeed worked and lived in the fruit mar­ket of APMC, Barkat was a res­i­dent of Diva,” said Umap. “Their ar­rest has helped solve sim­i­lar cases at Kopar Khairane, APMC, Nerul and Ra­bale. They had been booked for sim­i­lar crimes ear­lier too.”
