COPS ARREST 4 APMC WORKERS FOR THEFT, SOLVE 4 CASES
VASHI: Four cases of housebreaking and theft were solved after the Vashi police arrested four workers of the APMC market in Vashi, who were members of a gang.
The police recovered booty worth Rs4 l akh which t he accused had buried it.
On November 22, the house of Avdhoot Roy, 49, a resident of Sector 16 in Vashi, was broken into. Around 3am, his wife was woken by a sound. Even as she raised an alarm, the miscreants escaped with valuables.
According to deputy commissioner of police Shahji Umap, “During investigation, we found that a gang had been operating in Vashi and APMC areas. Under the guidance of senior i nspector of Vashi police s t ation Ajaykumar Landge, night patrolling was increased in the region.”
Umap said, “We learnt that a gang was planning to break i nto a house at Juhugaon. Landge’s team laid a trap at Gaodevi maidan and the four were arrested.”
The police said t he f our confessed to the crime during interrogation. They said after committing a robbery, they would find an empty piece of land in APMC market and bury the stolen goods.
The accused have been identified as Ashraful Choudhary, 25, Shaiju Shaikh, 23, Saeed Shaikh, 27, and Barkat Shaikh, 23. The police have recovered 1 0 0 gms of gold j ewellery, Rs8,700 cash and six mobile phones.
“While Choudhary, Shaiju and Saeed worked and lived in the fruit market of APMC, Barkat was a resident of Diva,” said Umap. “Their arrest has helped solve similar cases at Kopar Khairane, APMC, Nerul and Rabale. They had been booked for similar crimes earlier too.”
