` 92cr approved for health dept proposals, corporators cry foul
CBD BELAPUR: Civic hospitals in the city will now be cleaner and well- stocked as the standing committee of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) sanctioned proposals worth Rs92 crore earlier this week.
The funds will be used for purchase of pathology, automated cleaning of hospitals, purchase of furniture for Nerul, Airoli and Belapur hospitals and extension of sanitation contract.
Although a total of Rs92.22 crore was sanctioned by members, the meeting was mired with controversy as corporators raised questions on the functioning of the health department.
Congress member Rupali Bhagat objected to the proposal of automated cleaning of the hospitals. She said attempt had been made to favour the contractor.
NMMC house leader Jaywant Sutar asked why tender was called again when a proposal had been passed earlier.
Municipal commissioner Dinesh Waghmare said, “The contractor said the rates quoted were higher than the maximum retail price owing to a typing error. He went to court over the issue, which would have further delayed the tender. We reached an agreement with him to withdraw the case and removed him from the blacklist.”
