Awareness drive at Turbhe railway station to curb track- crossing
TURBHE: For mer NMMC standing committee chairman and Turbhe corporator Suresh Kulkarni organised a Gandhigiri awareness campaign at Turbhe railway station on Wednesday to spread the message of railway safety and curb the menace of crossing tracks.
The drive was conducted in association with RPF and GRP around 10am.
Kulkarni handed over roses to those crossing the railway track.
He asked them if they had f amilies at home and questioned what would happen to them if they did not return.
The police personnel assured t he violators t hat they were not being booked and spoke to them informing them of the dangers they face and the precautions they need to take.
“The issue of railway related deaths is being discussed in the Lok Sabha and the media too has highlighted how precious lives are being lost due to the crossing of tracks and the stunts performed by youth while travelling in trains,” said Kulkarni.
He added, “Turbhe area has witnessed a number of accidents and hence we spoke to the authorities to undertake the drive.”
Kulkarni said, “There is a subway here, yet people prefer crossing tracks to take a short cut. This often proves fatal. We are talking to the authorities to fence the area.”
Kulkarni said the drive was to convey to people caught crossing the tracks that their life is precious and following the rules will ensure their safety and that of their families. The officials appealed to them not to repeat the mistake again.
