Aware­ness drive at Turbhe rail­way sta­tion to curb track- cross­ing

TURBHE: For mer NMMC stand­ing com­mit­tee chair­man and Turbhe cor­po­ra­tor Suresh Kulka­rni or­gan­ised a Gand­hi­giri aware­ness cam­paign at Turbhe rail­way sta­tion on Wed­nes­day to spread the mes­sage of rail­way safety and curb the men­ace of cross­ing tracks.

The drive was con­ducted in as­so­ci­a­tion with RPF and GRP around 10am.

Kulka­rni handed over roses to those cross­ing the rail­way track.

He asked them if they had f am­i­lies at home and ques­tioned what would hap­pen to them if they did not re­turn.

The po­lice per­son­nel as­sured t he vi­o­la­tors t hat they were not be­ing booked and spoke to them in­form­ing them of the dan­gers they face and the pre­cau­tions they need to take.

“The is­sue of rail­way re­lated deaths is be­ing dis­cussed in the Lok Sabha and the me­dia too has high­lighted how pre­cious lives are be­ing lost due to the cross­ing of tracks and the stunts per­formed by youth while trav­el­ling in trains,” said Kulka­rni.

He added, “Turbhe area has wit­nessed a num­ber of ac­ci­dents and hence we spoke to the au­thor­i­ties to un­der­take the drive.”

Kulka­rni said, “There is a sub­way here, yet peo­ple pre­fer cross­ing tracks to take a short cut. This of­ten proves fa­tal. We are talk­ing to the au­thor­i­ties to fence the area.”

Kulka­rni said the drive was to con­vey to peo­ple caught cross­ing the tracks that their life is pre­cious and fol­low­ing the rules will en­sure their safety and that of their fam­i­lies. The of­fi­cials ap­pealed to them not to re­peat the mis­take again.
