The Opposition has taken the ruling NCP to task for its outright rejection unlike some other municipal corporations which approved the project with amendments.

NMMC opposition leader Vijay Chougule said: “The ruling party could have taken the opposition and municipal commissioner into confidence before rejecting the proposal. They could have discussed the issues with us and we could have all together proposed amendments in the proposals with respect to the SPV, if there was a fear of it taking away our powers.”

He added, “This is what Mumbai and Pune have done. Outright rejection showed the attitude that the ruling party has always had.”
