Cops crack down on molesters, round up around 60 hooligans
The Navi Mumbai police has cracked down on molesters in t he city with drives being conducted on two consecutive days in Panvel.
On Wednesday, the Panvel police rounded up 60 hooligans and took them to the police station.
In another drive on Thursday, the police caught four people. Police have said that they will intensify the drive in the coming days.
T he drive comes in t he wake of police commissioner Prabhat Ranjan instructing the police stations to take steps to secure women in their jurisdiction.
He has also asked them to take preventive steps to ensure that school and college going girls are not harassed.
Senior police i nspector Sunil Bajare said, “We have taken serious note of the issue. Apart from working to curb thefts, dacoity, chain snatching, we have also begun taking action against the hooligans on the streets.”
“On Wednesday and Thursday, we undertook a special drive near KV Girls School. Boys on bikes were speeding in the area, doing stunts, passing comments at girls and creating a scene,” added Bajare.
“We request the parents to keep an eye on their kids. They need to think before giving them expensive bikes and pocket money. Just as they are serious about their jobs, they need to be serious about what their kids are doing out,” said Bajare,
The parents of some of the boys who were caught were called to the police station and told about the actions of their children.
Some others were talked to by the police themselves.
