PMC GENERAL BODY GIVES NOD FOR MUNICIPAL CORPORATION
The long-pending proposal of forming Panvel Municipal Corporation is finally picking up pace. The general body of Panvel Municipal Council ( PMC) on Thursday unanimously approved the proposal for the formation of a municipal corporation for the region. A number of suggestions given by opposition leader Sandeep Patil and others were incorporated in the proposal.
The City and I ndustrial Development Cor poration (Cidco) has developed the nodes of New Panvel, Kharghar, Kamothe, Kalamboli, Ulwe and Taloja in Panvel region. The surrounding areas are going to be developed under the NAINA project.
Since the population of Panvel has reached around 9 lakh, residents have been demanding a municipal corporation.
Meanwhile, a proposal from NMMC for t he t ransfer of Kharghar to Navi Mumbai area had been sent to the urban development ministry.
MLA Prashant Thakur has long been demanding a municipal corporation. A signature campaign too was undertaken in the region to push for the demand.
The chief minister recently formed a committee under the chairmanship of Konkan divisional commissioner Tanaji Satre. Within a month, the committee will study the issues of geographical structure, municipalcorporation, revenue, need for additional staff and submit a report to the government.
PMC president Charusheela Gharat said, “A proposal to recommend a positive decision on the issue was presented by councillor Anil Bhagat in the house. With all the parties supporting it, the technical clearance required for the corporation has been given.”
