Jew­ellery worth ` 42K looted from con­sta­ble’s house

The San­pada po­lice have reg­is­tered a case af­ter some uniden­ti­fied peo­ple broke into a house at Sec­tor 5 and fled with gold jew­ellery worth Rs42,000 from it on Thurs­day. The com­plainant in the case is a woman con­sta­ble posted at Turbhe MIDC po­lice sta­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, Su­jata Garje, 24, lives in a rented house with a room­mate, who is also a con­sta­ble with Mum­bai po­lice. Both of them were on duty when the theft took place.

“The com­plainant had been en­trusted with some work dur­ing the cy­ber- safety week and she left her room around 9.30am. On re­turn­ing home around 3.30pm, she found that the lock at the main en­trance of the house was bro­ken. Later, she re­alised that gold jew­ellery was miss­ing from one of the rooms and then ap­proached us,” said GG Sur­vada, po­lice sub- in­spec­tor from San­pada po­lice sta­tion.

The po­lice sus­pect some­one from the same area, who knew the of­fice tim­ing of the com­plainant, is in­volved in the crime.

“We have reg­is­tered a case un­der sec­tions 454, 457 and 380 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code ( IPC) against the uniden­ti­fied ac­cused. Our in­ves­ti­ga­tions are on,” an­other po­lice of­fi­cer said.

“We al­ways sug­gest peo­ple keep jew­ellery in bank lock­ers,” he added.
