MUM­BAI: The cold wave from the north brought down the tem­per­a­ture in the sub­urbs to 11.6 de­grees Cel­sius, 6.3 de­grees be­low nor­mal, making it the sec­ond low­est tem­per­a­ture in De­cem­ber in the past decade.

The low­est min­i­mum tem­per­a­ture for the month in the past decade was 11.4 de­grees Cel­sius, recorded on De­cem­ber 27, 2011. The all-time low for the month was 10.6 de­grees Cel­sius, recorded on De­cem­ber 20, 1949.

“The tem­per­a­tures have dropped as mod­er­ate to strong winds from the north are pre­vail­ing over Mum­bai and sur­round­ing ar­eas such as Konkan and north-cen­tral Ma­ha­rash­tra. We ex­pect th­ese weather con­di­tions to con­tinue for the next two days,” said KS Hos­a­likar, deputy di­rec­tor gen­eral, western re­gion, IMD.
