CCTVs to watch over Pan­vel soon

Af­ter al­most a year, the Pan­vel Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil has re­vived its project to in­stall closed cir­cuit tele­vi­sion (CCTV) cam­eras across the Pan­vel node. PMC made plans to in­stall CCTV cam­eras in the node with the Navi Mum­bai Mu­nic­i­pal Cor­po­ra­tion (NMMC) and the City and In­dus­trial De­vel­op­men­tal Cor­po­ra­tion (Cidco)’s step to se­cure the city with closed cir­cuit tele­vi­sion (CCTV) sur­veil­lance.

How­ever, the project was put on hold for some time and has only re­cently been ap­proved. “We have been mulling over what se­cu­rity mea­sures need to be taken for bet­ter pro­tec­tion of res­i­dents in the node. We have fi­nalised the process and the ten- der for the same will be is­sued next month,” said Mangesh Chi­tle, chief of­fi­cer of Pan­vel Mu­nic­i­pal Coun­cil.

Of­fi­cials said that around 25 to 30 spots have been iden­ti­fied which are prom­i­nent lo­ca­tions to in­stall the CCTV cam­eras in the Pan­vel node and a bud­get of Rs60 lakh had been es­ti­mated for the project while around Rs2lakh would be re­quired an­nu­ally for main­te­nance. CCTVs will be in­stalled at New Pan­vel sig­nal chowk, Gar­den ho­tel chowk, Shiv Shambho naka and so on.
