CCTVs to watch over Panvel soon
After almost a year, the Panvel Municipal Council has revived its project to install closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras across the Panvel node. PMC made plans to install CCTV cameras in the node with the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) and the City and Industrial Developmental Corporation (Cidco)’s step to secure the city with closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance.
However, the project was put on hold for some time and has only recently been approved. “We have been mulling over what security measures need to be taken for better protection of residents in the node. We have finalised the process and the ten- der for the same will be issued next month,” said Mangesh Chitle, chief officer of Panvel Municipal Council.
Officials said that around 25 to 30 spots have been identified which are prominent locations to install the CCTV cameras in the Panvel node and a budget of Rs60 lakh had been estimated for the project while around Rs2lakh would be required annually for maintenance. CCTVs will be installed at New Panvel signal chowk, Garden hotel chowk, Shiv Shambho naka and so on.
