Bal­loon ven­dor killed in cylin­der blast at Kalyan school, 13 hurt

KALYAN: A bal­loon ven­dor was killed and at least 13 peo­ple, in­clud­ing six stu­dents, were in­jured at a Kalyan school, when a cylin­der used to fill up the bal­loons ex­ploded dur­ing an an­nual sports event on Thurs­day morn­ing.

The vic­tim, 52- year- old bal­loon ven­dor Ram Prasad, died on the spot. Of those in­jured, two were shifted to a Mum­bai hos­pi­tal as their in­juries were se­vere. The six stu­dents are un­der ob­ser­va­tion at a pri­vate hos­pi­tal in Dom­bivli.

“There was a loud explosion around 1.45pm. I im­me­di­ately en­sured the stu­dents were sent for treat­ment. It was a very un­for­tu­nate in­ci­dent, we are do­ing our best to help stu­dents and par­ents,” said Bharat Ma­lik, chair­man of the Arya Gu­rukul school, where the in­ci­dent took place.

The Kolse­wadi po­lice sta­tion, prob­ing the in­ci­dent, said they have booked the school man­age­ment un­der rel­e­vant sec­tions of the In­dian Pe­nal Code.
