Balloon vendor killed in cylinder blast at Kalyan school, 13 hurt
KALYAN: A balloon vendor was killed and at least 13 people, including six students, were injured at a Kalyan school, when a cylinder used to fill up the balloons exploded during an annual sports event on Thursday morning.
The victim, 52- year- old balloon vendor Ram Prasad, died on the spot. Of those injured, two were shifted to a Mumbai hospital as their injuries were severe. The six students are under observation at a private hospital in Dombivli.
“There was a loud explosion around 1.45pm. I immediately ensured the students were sent for treatment. It was a very unfortunate incident, we are doing our best to help students and parents,” said Bharat Malik, chairman of the Arya Gurukul school, where the incident took place.
The Kolsewadi police station, probing the incident, said they have booked the school management under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
