City wakes up to chilly Thurs­day, cold­est in 10 years

MUM­BAI: The min­i­mum tem­per­a­ture in the sub­urbs on Thurs­day touched 11.4 de­gree Cel­sius, making it the cold­est De­cem­ber morn­ing in a decade. The last time the tem­per­a­ture dropped to this level in De­cem­ber was in 2011.

Thurs­day morn­ing was the cold­est of the sea­son in the is­land city too. The min­i­mum tem­per­a­ture recorded at Co­laba was 17.2 de­gree Celisus, three de­grees be­low nor­mal, a drop from the pre­vi­ous low of 17.8 de g ree Cel­sius, ac­cord­ing to the In­dia Me­te­o­ro­log­i­cal Depart­ment (IMD).

The cool northerly winds, com­mon dur­ing this time of the year, may be re­spon­si­ble for the weather.

How­ever, the tem­per­a­tures rose con­sid­er­ably dur­ing the day. The high­est day tem­per­a­ture in the is­land city on Thurs­day was 29.5 de­gree Cel­sius, two de­grees above nor­mal. A day ear­lier, the Co­laba weather sta- tion had recorded the sea­son’s low­est max­i­mum tem­per­a­ture of 27.3 de­gree Cel­sius.
