City wakes up to chilly Thursday, coldest in 10 years
MUMBAI: The minimum temperature in the suburbs on Thursday touched 11.4 degree Celsius, making it the coldest December morning in a decade. The last time the temperature dropped to this level in December was in 2011.
Thursday morning was the coldest of the season in the island city too. The minimum temperature recorded at Colaba was 17.2 degree Celisus, three degrees below normal, a drop from the previous low of 17.8 de g ree Celsius, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The cool northerly winds, common during this time of the year, may be responsible for the weather.
However, the temperatures rose considerably during the day. The highest day temperature in the island city on Thursday was 29.5 degree Celsius, two degrees above normal. A day earlier, the Colaba weather sta- tion had recorded the season’s lowest maximum temperature of 27.3 degree Celsius.
