NAVI MUM­BAI: A 49-year-old man from APMC, who in­tro­duced him­self as deputy su­per­in­ten­dent of po­lice of anti-cor­rup­tion bureau, was ar­rested by Vashi po­lice on Fri­day. The po­lice have also re­cov­ered one fake iden­tity card from his pos­ses­sion.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, Ashok Ku­mar Na­garia would put a board in his 4-wheeler that read Dy SP, ACB, Navi Mum­bai. He parked his ve­hi­cle near Cen­tre One mall on Fri­day. “Act­ing on a tip off, we sent one of our teams to check if the owner of the ve­hi­cle was really a po­lice of­fi­cial. How­ever, dur­ing in­ter­ro­ga­tion, the ac­cused was un­able to give co­her­ent replies. Our of­fi­cials found the fake iden­tity card with him. He was then taken to the po­lice sta­tion and we for­mally ar­rested him af­ter a few hours,” said CM Godse, as­sis­tant po­lice in­spec­tor, Vashi po­lice sta­tion. “Ini­tially, the ac­cused was try­ing to mis­lead us with some wrong de­tails. How­ever, when asked, he failed to pro­duce any doc­u­ments is­sue by the cen­tral or state gov­ern­ment. We booked him un­der sec­tion 170 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code (IPC),” Godse said.

The ac­cused was pro­duced be­fore the ju­di­cial court on Fri­day af­ter­noon and was re­leased on bail.
