Man loses vision in one eye while lighting firecracker
A 22-year-old man from Shahapur has lost vision in his right eye and suffered burn injuries to his right hand in a firecracker explosion on Sunday.
The man, identified as Kalpesh Dabane, is undergoing treatment at Kalwa hospital in Thane.
Dabane said, “A procession was heading for a pilgrimage to Shirdi in Nashik from the Vashind in Shahapur, where I live. I took out some fire crackers that were not used during this Diwali. As I lit it, it did not burst. I then went to take a closer look at it, and it exploded in my face. In the explosion, my hand and eye was injured.”
The music was loud. People were dancing and singing and none noticed Dabane was injured, said Sunny More, Dabane’s relative, who was present at the hospital.
“Suddenly, a member from the procession noticed Dabane was injured and alerted the others, who rushed him to Kalwa hospital. The doctors claim his right hand is badly injured and he has lost vision in his right eye,” said More.
