Alibaug trib­als get new year gift from doc­tors

VASHI: City doc­tors brought smiles to many tribal women and chil­dren in Poy­nad, Alibaug, by cel­e­brat­ing the New Year a day early with them.

Doc­tors and employees from Ster­ling Wock­hardt Hos­pi­tal, Vashi, cel­e­brated the day as part of the hos­pi­tal’s month­long do­na­tion ini­tia­tive ‘Be a Santa..Joy of Giv­ing’.

This is the sec­ond year where Wock­hardt Hos­pi­tal doc­tors, employees, pa­tients and their rel­a­tives have do­nated toys, cloths sta­tionery and uten­sils for the un­der­priv­i­leged.

This year Wock­hardt Hos­pi­tal doc­tors and employees trav­elled 70km from Navi Mum­bai to Poy­nad where more than 20,000 trib­als are strug­gling for ba­sic ne­ces­si­ties in­clud­ing ed­u­ca­tion, clean wa­ter and em­ploy­ment.

On the oc­ca­sion, more than 200 tribal fam­i­lies got to­gether for the func­tion where they re­ceived cloths uten­sils, toys and books for their chil­dren.

Dr Me­hul Kalawa­dia, cen­tral head of Ster­ling Wock­hardt Hos­pi­tal said, “Our vi­sion was to understand the prob­lems in the so­ci­ety and try to help them in all pos­si­ble man­ners. Our doc­tors and staff are go­ing to or­gan­ise such so­cial ini­tia­tive in the fu­ture too.”
