AUTO DRIVER KILLED IN HIT-AND-RUN
A 43-year-old autorickshaw driver died in a hit-and-run accident at Turbhe on Wednesday night.
According to the police, Nagendra Sonkamble, a resident of Turbhe Naka, was on his way to Vashi from Turbhe in his autorickshaw around 10pm. While crossing the Turbhe Bridge, Sonkamble’s autorickshaw was hit by an unknown vehicle moving in the same direction.
“The victim suffered injuries on his head. He was rushed to the civic hospital in Vashi by fellow motorists, but he died there after an hour,” said an officer from the APMC police station.
The police are on the lookout for the driver of vehicle that hit the autorickshaw.
“There were no CCTV cameras in the area where the accident took place and no one saw the registration number of the vehicle. Our officials are looking for the driver at different places,” said the officer.
A case under sections 279, 304a of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and sections 184 and 134 of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered against the driver.
The police handed over the body to his family after the post-mortem. The post-mortem report is awaited.
