32 BANGLADESHIS HELD IN PAN­VEL

PAN­VEL: Thirty-two Bangladeshi na­tion­als were ar­rested by the po­lice in the Motha Khanda area of New Pan­vel. Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the il­le­gal im­mi­grants were sell­ing fruits and worked as labour­ers at con­struc­tion sites to earn their liveli­hood. “Those ar­rested do not have proof of be­ing In­dian na­tion­als nor do they have doc­u­ments per­mit­ting them to stay in the coun­try,” said as­sis­tant po­lice com­mis­sioner Sheshrao Surya­van­shi. He said, “We are in­ves­ti­gat­ing how they came to the area and the agents in­volved.” Surya­van­shi said there had been re­ports of out­siders in­volved in da­coities and thefts and the po­lice formed a spe­cial squad to comb the area and find the mis­cre­ants. Those ar­rested have been booked un­der rel­e­vant sec­tions of the For­eign­ers Act of 1946 and Pass­port Act of 1967.
