VETERAN CPI LEADER AB BARDHAN PASSES AWAY
NEW DELHI: Former general secretary of the Communist Party of India and a doyen of India’s Leftist movement, AB Bardhan, 92, passed away here on Saturday. He was admitted to GB Pant hospital here after suffering a paralytic stroke last month.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Will always remember Shri AB Bardhan as a passionate Communist, fully committed to his ideology & principles.”
Congress president Sonia Gandhi described him as “one who championed the cause of dispossessed and the marginalised throughout his life.”
The veteran leader, a key strategist in coalition politics, is survived by son Ashok and daughter Alka. An architect of the UPA 1, Bardhan was known for his blunt speak and integrity.
