NAVIN GAVTE, NCP corporator

I was born and brought up in this region. When the area faced a crisis, I set aside my political affiliation and met Raj Thackeray, guardian minister Eknath Shinde, MP Rajan Vichare and chief minister Devendra Fadnavis. The credit for the decision should go to them all. We also received support from NMMC Opposition leader Vijay Chougule, MLA Manda Mhatre and former guardian minister and local MLA. There is an issue of four times penalty and who should pay it — the developer or the residents. We will hold a meeting to discuss it and propose instalments for its payment.

APARNA GAVTE, NCP corporator

I had met everyone from the standing committee chairperson to mayor, municipal commissioner and the chief minister, appealing for help. The chief minister’s decision is the fruit of the efforts put in. We, Digha residents, had not celebrated festivals in the past four months. We will now celebrate them all together.

VIJAY CHOUGULE, Opposition leader, NMMC

Our leader Uddhav Thackeray had seen on television, the trauma that Digha residents were going through and he had then asked the chief minister to take appropriate steps to provide relief to the Marathi people. Apart from these efforts, we were fighting court battles and bearing the cost of it. We are soon going to celebrate a victory day. We will also raise funds to pay for the penalty for regularisation.
