SANKRANT MELA STARTS ON A GRAND NOTE
CBD BELAPUR: A week ahead of the first festival of this year, Makar Sankrant, the City and Industrial Development Corporation’s (Cidco) Urban Haat has organised a Sankrant Mela from January 6 to 17.
Artisans from several states such as West Bengal, Maharashtra, Assam, Tripura, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will participate.
Exclusive handloom and handicraft products will be up for sale. Handicrafts made of terracotta, leather products, jute products, bamboo products, wall hangings, artificial jewellery and stone arts too will be exhibited at the festival.
Foodies can treat their taste buds to the cuisines of different states at the exclusive food court.
Cidco’s chief public relations officer Mohan Ninawe said, “Makar Sankrant Mela has started on a grand scale this year and Cidco has planned many events such as National Handloom Expo, Vasant Mela, Chaitra Mela and Summer Festival at the Haat till June 2016.”
He said, “Many cultural programmes are held in the amphitheatre during the weekends. Some of the programmes scheduled are film festivals, dance, drama and orchestra performances by school and college students.”
