SANKRANT MELA STARTS ON A GRAND NOTE

CBD BE­LA­PUR: A week ahead of the first fes­ti­val of this year, Makar Sankrant, the City and In­dus­trial De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion’s (Cidco) Ur­ban Haat has or­gan­ised a Sankrant Mela from Jan­uary 6 to 17.

Ar­ti­sans from sev­eral states such as West Ben­gal, Ma­ha­rash­tra, As­sam, Tripura, Ra­jasthan, Ut­tar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu will par­tic­i­pate.

Ex­clu­sive hand­loom and hand­i­craft prod­ucts will be up for sale. Hand­i­crafts made of ter­ra­cotta, leather prod­ucts, jute prod­ucts, bam­boo prod­ucts, wall hang­ings, ar­ti­fi­cial jew­ellery and stone arts too will be ex­hib­ited at the fes­ti­val.

Food­ies can treat their taste buds to the cuisines of dif­fer­ent states at the ex­clu­sive food court.

Cidco’s chief pub­lic re­la­tions of­fi­cer Mo­han Ninawe said, “Makar Sankrant Mela has started on a grand scale this year and Cidco has planned many events such as Na­tional Hand­loom Expo, Vas­ant Mela, Chaitra Mela and Sum­mer Fes­ti­val at the Haat till June 2016.”

He said, “Many cul­tural pro­grammes are held in the am­phithe­atre dur­ing the week­ends. Some of the pro­grammes sched­uled are film fes­ti­vals, dance, drama and orchestra per­for­mances by school and col­lege stu­dents.”
