The Thane po­lice on Fri­day handed over stolen goods, most of them gold chains, to 42 peo­ple.

There were 4,889 com­plaints of theft, rob­bery, chain-snatch­ing and other cases such as house break- ins reg­is­tered in po­lice sta­tions un­der Thane po­lice com­mis­sion­er­ate.

The po­lice claimed to have solved 1,476 cases and re­cov­ered goods, gold and ve­hi­cles worth Rs16.66 crore in a year.

Po­lice sources said, “On Fri­day, we re­turned prop­erty worth Rs27.25 lakh to 42 com­plainants. In 2015, the Thane po­lice solved 384 chain-snatch­ing cases and re­cov­ered stolen gold or­na­ments worth Rs1.33 crore.”

Pushpa Raut, 32, who was robbed of her gold chain six months ago, had not ex­pected to get it back. “The po­lice have done a good job of re­cov­er­ing my gold chain.”
