Man cheats bizman, sells rented copiers
NAVI MUMBAI: A 23-year-old man from Belapur, who allegedly cheated a businessman by taking 15 photocopiers on rent, was arrested by the police on Friday. The police have seized all the photocopiers worth Rs15.60 lakh, which had been sold to another person.
According to the police, the accused Jayandersingh Shoda had made documents in the name of Jindal Company and taken the machines on rent ‘to run an office’ from Krish Enterprises in July last year. He was supposed to pay Rs15,000 a month for each machine. However, the proprietor of Krish Enterprises had not received any payment from the accused for months.
“When Raghu Patni, the proprietor, did not receive any rent from Shoda after several months, he made enquiries and learnt that Shoda did not have any office in the city. Shoda’s phone was switched off. Finally, he registered an FIR on January 6,” said an officer from Belapur police station.
“Two days ago, we got a tip-off that Shoda was staying in a rented house in Pune with a fake name. We sent a team there and arrested him on Friday,” she said.
“During the interrogation, we learnt that Shoda had sold the photocopiers a few months ago. We recovered all the photocopiers. The price of each machine is Rs1.10 lakh,” she said.
Recovered photocopiers are stacked outside the police station in CBD Belapur on Saturday.
