ROBBER HELD, GOODS WORTH `5 L RECOVERED
A 28-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh, who was involved in several burglaries in Navi Mumbai, was arrested last week.
According to the police, Fahim Jalil Ahmad, live in a rented house at Vashi gaon and he did odd jobs. Last week, during a nakabandi at Panvel, the police detained him after they found jewellery in his possession. “When our officers asked him from where he got the jewellery, the accused was unable to reply. Later, he confessed to the crimes and we arrested him,” said Dilip Sawant, deputy commissioner of police (crime).
The police have also recovered stolen goods worth Rs5 lakh from him. “With his arrest, we have solved 15 cases registered at Panvel, Taloja, Rabale, Turbhe, Kharghar, CBD and Uran police stations. He used to sell the stolen properties in other places. We are probing if he had accomplices,” Sawant said.
According to the crime branch officers, Rabale recorded the highest burglaries last year. “We are taking various steps for creating awareness among people. Our officers have formed teams and are patrolling the roads at nights. We are conducting nakabandis at all arterial roads,” said an officer from Rabale police station.
In 2015, as many as 609 burglaries were reported in Navi Mumbai and only 275 cases solved by the police.
