ROB­BER HELD, GOODS WORTH `5 L RE­COV­ERED

A 28-year-old man from Ut­tar Pradesh, who was in­volved in sev­eral bur­glar­ies in Navi Mum­bai, was ar­rested last week.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, Fahim Jalil Ah­mad, live in a rented house at Vashi gaon and he did odd jobs. Last week, dur­ing a naka­bandi at Pan­vel, the po­lice de­tained him af­ter they found jew­ellery in his pos­ses­sion. “When our of­fi­cers asked him from where he got the jew­ellery, the ac­cused was un­able to re­ply. Later, he con­fessed to the crimes and we ar­rested him,” said Dilip Sawant, deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (crime).

The po­lice have also re­cov­ered stolen goods worth Rs5 lakh from him. “With his ar­rest, we have solved 15 cases reg­is­tered at Pan­vel, Taloja, Ra­bale, Turbhe, Kharghar, CBD and Uran po­lice sta­tions. He used to sell the stolen prop­er­ties in other places. We are prob­ing if he had ac­com­plices,” Sawant said.

Ac­cord­ing to the crime branch of­fi­cers, Ra­bale recorded the high­est bur­glar­ies last year. “We are tak­ing var­i­ous steps for cre­at­ing aware­ness among peo­ple. Our of­fi­cers have formed teams and are pa­trolling the roads at nights. We are con­duct­ing naka­ban­dis at all ar­te­rial roads,” said an of­fi­cer from Ra­bale po­lice sta­tion.

In 2015, as many as 609 bur­glar­ies were re­ported in Navi Mum­bai and only 275 cases solved by the po­lice.
