Mahatma Phule Po­lice sta­tion, Kalyan, on Wed­nes­day ar­rested four youths, in­clud­ing one mi­nor, for the mur­der of an auto rick­shaw driver.

“We have charged all four youths un­der IPC 302 (mur­der). We have ar­rested Ajay Bhoir, 28; Yo­gesh Daire,22; Ak­shay Mali,19; and one mi­nor boy, all of whom are Kalyan res­i­dents. They were pre­sented be­fore court. The court has re­manded the three adult youths in po­lice cus­tody till Jan­uary 19. The fourth youth is a mi­nor, so he has been sent to a re­mand home in Bhi­wandi,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Mahatma Phule Po­lice sta­tion.

The in­ci­dent took place on De­cem­ber 16, 2015. Auto rick­shaw driver Naresh Karnik was driv­ing his auto and car­ry­ing a pas­sen­ger to­wards Be­turkar Pada, Kalyan.

On his way, he found ahead of him four youth on one mo­tor­cy­cle.

Naresh honked mul­ti­ple times, so that they would let him over­take. But they did not let him do so.

Af­ter a few me­tres, Naresh man­aged to over­take the mo­tor­cy­cle. Then he ar­gu­ing with the four youths. Af­ter a hot ar­gu­ment, the youths got down from their bike and as­saulted the auto driver. Af­ter thrash­ing him up, they ran away.

The in­ci­dent took place at 11 pm, later Naresh was ad­mit­ted to a pri­vate hos­pi­tal. He was shifted to Sion hos­pi­tal. He was se­verely in­jured, and died dur­ing treat­ment on Jan­uary 10.

He added: “Based on the the bike’s num­ber plate we could trace their lo­ca­tion with the help of the RTO. We caught hold of one of the ac­cused first and ques­tioned him over a pe­riod of time fol­lowed by which he re­vealed lo­ca­tion of his as­so­ciates who joined him in com­mit­ting the crime”.
