NAVI MUM­BAI: The Khan­desh­war po­lice have reg­is­tered a case af­ter an uniden­ti­fied biker snatched a gold chain worth Rs67, 000 from a woman at New Pan­vel on Fri­day.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, the com­plainant, Su­gandhi Suresh, 46, an em­ployee with a pri­vate com­pany, was walk­ing along the road near the IDBI cir­cle. The uniden­ti­fied biker, who was pass­ing by, snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled the spot.

“The com­plaint shouted for help, but the biker had fled. She later ap­proached us and reg­is­tered an FIR against the ac­cused,” said a po­lice of­fi­cer from Khan­desh­war po­lice sta­tion.

The Navi Mum­bai po­lice reg­is­tered 112 chain snatch­ing cases in 2015, of which, they solved 57 cases. Vashi, Nerul, Kharghar and Ra­bale saw the max­i­mum cases last year.

Dilip Sawant, deputy com­mis­sioner of po­lice (crime) said, “The num­ber of such cases reg­is­tered in 2014 was 297, of which, 177 cases were solved. So, we can say the men­ace has been re­duced over the last one year.”
