WOMAN ROBBED OF GOLD CHAIN WORTH `67K
NAVI MUMBAI: The Khandeshwar police have registered a case after an unidentified biker snatched a gold chain worth Rs67, 000 from a woman at New Panvel on Friday.
According to the police, the complainant, Sugandhi Suresh, 46, an employee with a private company, was walking along the road near the IDBI circle. The unidentified biker, who was passing by, snatched the gold chain from her neck and fled the spot.
“The complaint shouted for help, but the biker had fled. She later approached us and registered an FIR against the accused,” said a police officer from Khandeshwar police station.
The Navi Mumbai police registered 112 chain snatching cases in 2015, of which, they solved 57 cases. Vashi, Nerul, Kharghar and Rabale saw the maximum cases last year.
Dilip Sawant, deputy commissioner of police (crime) said, “The number of such cases registered in 2014 was 297, of which, 177 cases were solved. So, we can say the menace has been reduced over the last one year.”
