The state has turned down a request from the organisers of the Mumbai Marathon to give them concession in the charges levied by the Mumbai police for maintaining law and order during the event. The organisers owe Rs1.59 crore to the police for the past editions of the marathon — Rs67 lakh for 2015 and Rs92 lakh for 2016.

In a meeting on Wednesday, the organisers asked the government to charge them only for traffic management and not for deployment of police for maintaining law and order. “We have been asking for uniformity in the policy to levy charges for security. The charges have been ranging between Rs50 lakh and Rs1 crore over the years,” said Arvind Reddy, coordinator of the Mumbai Marathon.
