Truck driver booked for selling tyres worth ` 12 lakh
The Kalamboli police have booked a truck driver for allegedly selling tyres worth Rs 12 lakh he was transporting from Madurai and then ran away leaving behind the vehicle in their area.
According to the police, the suspect transported the tyres from Tamil Nadul to deliver to a shop in Kalamboli.
However, instead of delivering them to the shop he sold the tyres to some other people and then went into hiding. He is yet to be arrested.
His employer approached the police when the tyres were not delivered to the shop even after nine days.
“The suspect left Madurai on January 7. However, he did not reach the shop in Kalamboli even after nine days. His employer then enquired the matter and realised that shop did not receive the tyres till January 16,” said a police officer from Kalamboli police station.
“He then approached us. We later found the abandoned truck at a truck terminal in our area,” he added.
“We have registered a first information report (FIR) under sections 407 (criminal breach of trust by carrier) of the Indian Penal Code ( IPC) against the driver. We have no idea whether he sold the tyres in Navi Mumbai or somewhere else. We are now investigating the matter and hope to arrest the driver soon,” he added.
