Trailer worth ` 13 lakh stolen from Uran

A trailer worth Rs12.93 lakh, which was parked on Navghar- Chirner Road on Sun­day night, was stolen. The Uran po­lice have reg­is­tered a case against uniden­ti­fied peo­ple.

Ac­cord­ing to the po­lice, driver He­mant Rane, 48, a res­i­dent of Mu­lund, had parked the ve­hi­cle on the road and gone away for some work around 11pm.

He re­turned to the spot a few hours later only to re­alise the trailer was miss­ing.

He l ater ap­proached t he po­lice and reg­is­tered an FIR. How­ever, the po­lice have not been able to make any break­through so far.

“We h ave re gis­tered a case un­der sec­tions 379 of the In­dian Pe­nal Code ( IPC) against the uniden­ti­fied cul­prits. We hope to solve the case soon,” said an of­fi­cer from Uran po­lice sta­tion.

Ac­cord­ing to po­lice sources, as many as 594 ve­hi­cles were stolen from the satel­lite city last year. The po­lice man­aged to re­cover only 142 of them, which is a mere 24% of the to­tal num­ber of stolen ve­hi­cles.

The po­lice said most ve­hi­cle thieves were not res­i­dents of the city.

“They come here, steal a ve­hi­cle and flee. If not ar­rested, they come again to com­mit an­other crime af­ter a few months,” the of­fi­cer said.
