Turbhe to get two foot over­bridges PEND­ING DE­MAND

The gen­eral body of NMMC on Wed­nes­day ap­proved con­struc­tion of two foot over­bridges tak­ing into ac­count the in­creased num­ber of com­muters on Thane-Belapur Road and the ac­ci­dents tak­ing place there. The FOBs will be con­structed on the road op­po­site Turbhe rail­way sta­tion.

I n N ove m b e r last ye a r, 32-year-old Ki­ran­devi Ra­jak and her three- year- old child were killed in an ac­ci­dent af­ter be­ing hit by a con­tainer. They were cross­ing the road to go to the rail­way sta­tion from Turbhe Store. This had led to protests in the area by res­i­dents.

City en­gi­neer Mo­han Da­gaonkar had then as­sured that the civic body will fi­nalise plan for the foot over­bridge at the ear­li­est.

The pro­posal was brought Thane-Belapur Road has be­come ac­ci­dent-prone as there are no foot over­bridges.

He said: “We will con­struct 2 FOBs in the area.”

Ex­plain­ing the rea­son for the de­lay, city en­gi­neer Mo­han Da­gaonkar said: “At the time of con­struc­tion of the Thane Belapur road, a fly­over had been planned at Turbhe Store. But, due to the op­po­si­tion by lo­cals it was not con­structed.”

He added, “For a sky­walk to be con­structed, three roads — KKR Road, Dr Babasa­heb Ambed­kar Road and ThaneBe­la­pur road — have to be con­sid­ered.”
